Rangers keeper Allan McGregor and Ibrox icon Andy Goram have “absolutely nothing between them” according to former Gers keeper and coach Jim Stewart.

Stewart thinks Gers legend Ally McCoist got it slightly wrong when he scored the abilities of the pair out of ten – Goram just shading it 9.9 to 9.85 – and insists Chris Woods and Stefan Klos are also right up there.

The former Ibrox coach worked with McGregor at Ibrox and isn’t surprised to see the sort of performance he delivered on Saturday as he denied Celtic with a string of fantastic saves.

While the Goram v McGregor debate will rage on for a long time to come, Stewart couldn’t split the pair despite McCoist giving Goram the nod.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

“I think Coisty was point zero five out in terms of his scoring there – there’s absolutely nothing between them! You have to put the two of them together along with Stefan Klos and Chris Woods,” Stewart said [Daily Record]

“They have all earned the right to adulation. Allan is certainly receiving that now but he’ll play it down because that’s just the character he is.

“I’m not surprised by these performances from Allan.

“These games certainly bring him to life and he thrives on them.

“I watched him coming off at half time – looking at his face you wouldn’t know if he was winning, losing or even enjoying the game!

“He was just totally zoned in to the performance. That’s him at his best.”

Stewart’s son, Colin, is the current goalkeeper coach for the first-team at Ibrox and Casper deserves a lot of credit for helping keep McGregor at his best in the last few years.

With the former Scotland star turning 39 at the end of the month, he’s in the latter stages of his career now but still looks every bit as fit and capable as he did a decade ago.

Fans will debate whether it is the Goalie or Greegs who is the better of the two for years to come but, hopefully, there’s another trophy or two to come for McGregor before he hangs up his gloves.
