Rangers take on Lincoln Red Imps on Thursday in the second qualifying round of the Europa League – and Steven Gerrard’s 21-man squad for the clash with the minnows has been confirmed on UEFA’s website.
The Gers are bidding to reach the group stage for the third consecutive season and head to Gibraltar to take on the Red Imps in the one-off tie to kick off their European campaign.
Despite being able to name a maximum of 25 players on the A list, Rangers have only been able to list 21 due to a lack of homegrown players in the squad – with eight of the 25-man squad required to be ‘locally trained.’
There is no place on the list for third-choice keeper Andy Firth, Jordan Jones or Joe Aribo while the likes of Academy graduate Nathan Patterson will be on the B list.
Gerrard can still make two changes to the squad before the midnight tomorrow but it would see him needing to take someone else out of the squad.
With Ryan Jack, Leon Balogun, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker all picking up injuries at the weekend and Allan McGregor missing the win over Dundee United with an injury of his own, it will leave Gerrard with far fewer option than he’ll want.
However, with the strength of the Gers’ starting XI, supplementing the side with Academy players from the B list shouldn’t pose any real risk to the Gers.
