Rangers skipper's imminent title joy has ex-Gers ace over the moon

Former Rangers defender Lee Hodson knows what it is like to be in a poor Gers side struggling to even compete for silverware and, after playing understudy to James Tavernier during his time at Ibrox, the Hamilton Accies ace is delighted to see Tav so close to lifting the title.

Tavernier has been imperious for Steven Gerrard’s side and Hodson thinks he won’t be the only one pleased to see the full-back write his name into the history books at Ibrox.

“We had a few tough times and there wasn’t any silverware. When you are at Rangers you are expected to win games and silverware,” Hodson said [Daily Record].

“But this season they have been very good from the first game and they have a fantastic squad and management team.

“There’s no surprise they are at the top of the league. For guys like Tav who have been there from the start, it’s fantastic to see him possibly lifting the title.

“He’s a fantastic player and proved that this season with his amount of goals and assists.

“When he was given the captaincy, it proved he is a great character in the dressing room and a lot of people will be happy to see Tav lift that trophy. A lot of people expect when new managers come in to have instant success. It doesn’t happen overnight.”

Hodson and his Accies team-mates are one of just three sides to have taken points off Rangers this season, snatching a 1-1 draw recently and the Hope CBD Stadium.

While Brian Rice’s side face a real scrap to save their Premiership status for next season, they showed against the Gers that they are capable of keeping themselves in the top-flight.

Although come May when Tavernier hoists the Premiership trophy into the air, there won’t be many Rangers fan thinking about Accies.
