Rangers have confirmed that Academy striker Zak Rudden has joined League Two side Plymouth Argyle on loan until January as he looks to build on his excellent form last season while at Falkirk.

The 19-year-old’s move was announced on the Gers’ official website and the striker will link up with Ryan Lowe at Home Park as the Plymouth boss takes advantage of his close friendship with Steven Gerrard.

While at Bury last season, Lowe had Jamie Barjonas and then Jordan Rossiter on loan from the Gers and has now added Rudden to his squad as they look to challenge at the top end of the table.

Rudden scored 13 times for the Bairns last season, despite their relegation from the Championship, and cleaned up at their club awards as he picked up all four trophies.

The striker actually played against Lowe’s Bury side last summer when they visited Ibrox for a friendly, scoring in the 6-0 win, and Lowe appears to have been a fan ever since.

The move to English football should really help Rudden continue to develop as he looks to force his way into Gerrard’s plans at Rangers – although with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe scoring for fun, he’s going to have to bide his time.

Rudden will face a fight with the likes of Dom Telford, Joel Grant, Byron Moore and Ryan Taylor for a place in Lowe’s XI but the young striker will be hoping he can make a big impression and improve on his 13 goals last season for Falkirk.
