Rangers Academy stars Glenn Middleton, Ciaran Dickson and Leon King were spotted training with Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad ahead of last night’s Europa League clash with Benfica – and all three must surely be in contention to play in this weekend’s League Cup tie at Falkirk.
While all three training with the first-team squad ahead of the clash against the Portuguese giants, the trip to the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday night seems tailor-made for all three to come in get some first-team minutes under their belts against the League One table-toppers.
King and Dickson have yet to make their first-team debuts but the clash with the Bairns would offer the ideal chance for Steven Gerrard to blood the youngsters, similar to how he has used early rounds of the League and Scottish Cups in recent seasons.
Middleton is no stranger to the first-team but has barely been seen over the last two seasons after stints on loan with Hibs and Bradford never worked out.
Giving them a chance to play against a good quality side with some very experienced heads amongst them would be perfect for their development and continue to show other youngsters at the club that there is a pathway to the Rangers first-team.
There could be even more youngsters involved against the Bairns on Sunday but it seems almost certain that Middleton, Dickson, and King will all be involved to some degree against Lee Miller and David McCracken’s side.
