Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has made two changes to his Europa League squad for Thursday’s meeting with Lincoln Red Imps as injured duo Leon Balogun and Brandon Barker drop out to be replaced by Andy Firth and Jordan Jones.
Jones and Firth missed out on the initial 21-man squad when it was confirmed but have been added to the pool after both Barker and Balogun were injured over the weekend.
Balogun was due to start the 4-0 win over Dundee United but limped out of the warm-up to be replaced by Filip Helander while Barker’s game was ended after 20 minutes by a hamstring injury.
The pair remained in Glasgow as the Gers flew out to Gibraltar yesterday and Gerrard’s squad now can’t be changed until the next round – assuming Rangers get there.
Jones is yet to play a minute of competitive football this season for the Light Blues and has only managed 128 minutes since injuring himself in last September’s Old Firm clash at Ibrox.
The Northern Irishman was also sent home from the recent internationals after picking up a knock so it seems unlikely he’ll have much – if any – part to play against Red Imps tomorrow night.
Balogun’s absence could hand George Edmundson a chance to get some minutes under his belt alongside either Connor Goldson or Filip Helander as the Gers look to book their place in the third qualifying round where they will face the winners of Willem II v Progres Niederkorn.
