Rangers have rejected a renewed bid from Lille for Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, according to a report, and could be set to abandon their pursuit.

According to the Scottish Daily Mail (Sat August 8, print edition), the Gers have knocked back £16.25million from the French side as Lille grow “frustrated” over the negotiations.

Lille have already snapped up Canadian strike star Jonathan David after selling Victo Osmihen but could now turn their attention elsewhere after struggling to get close to an agreement for Morelos.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard admitted that Morelos’ head has been turned by the speculation over his future and the potential end of Lille’s interest could see him re-find his focus quickly.

After a disappointing performance against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night, Morelos could sit out the clash with St. Mirren tomorrow as Gerrard looks to give a debut to new signing Cedric Itten.

The arrivals of Itten and Kemar Roofe had most fans expecting that Morelos’ time at Ibrox was up but the Gers now could have an embarrassment of riches in attack.

If Lille do end their interest in Morelos, it will be interesting to see whether Rangers actively look to sell him after effectively already replacing him or whether Gerrard looks to integrate all three of them into his side, as well as finding a place for Jermain Defoe.
