Rangers have thrashed Aberdeen 4-0 at Ibrox this afternoon to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership as Steven Gerrard’s side put in a dominant performance.
The Light Blues were on the attack from the first whistle and didn’t have long to wait for the first goal as Ryan Kent opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a fanstastic strike from distance before Kemar Roofe showed his quality with the second just before the half-hour.
A deflected effort from Scott Arfield and obligatory James Tavernier penalty sealed the win as Derek McInnes showed exactly why Gers fans are glad he bottled it when offered the Ibrox hotseat.
Gerrard’s side were terrific throughout and mauled Aberdeen to set themselves up perfectly for Thursday night’s Europa League tie with Benfica at Ibrox.
Here’s how Steven Gerrard’s side performed against Aberdeen:
Allan McGregor – 7
Barely tested as he looked to maintain the long domestic clean sheet record at Ibrox which stretches back to March. Looked comfortable when Aberdeen did get a sight of goal.
James Tavernier – 7
The skipper was his usual attacking self as he pushed forward and tried to create chances for the likes of Morelos and Roofe with his crosses. Scored from the spot to make it 4-0.
Connor Goldson – 7
Strolled it again as the Aberdeen forwards struggled to pressure the Gers back line. Composed on the ball and never looked like seeing the Gers fantastic Ibrox clean sheet record end.
Leon Balogun – 7
See: Connor Goldson.
Borna Barisic – 7
A little bit more subdued than usual going forward but the Croatian was still causing lots of problems of Aberdeen when he did get up the line. Barisic’s delivery is fantastic and could have had an assist or two on another day.
Ryan Jack – 8
Covered every blade of grass as he put in a tremendous shift against his old side. Linked really well with Aribo in the middle of the park as he drove Rangers on. Replaced after 55 minutes.
Scott Arfield – 8
Typical energetic display from Arfield and deserved his goal to make it 3-0 as Rangers threatened to run riot against McInnes’ side. The Canadian has really stepped up in the last few months and is almost a guaranteed pick just now.
Joe Aribo – 7
Played in a deeper role and worked really well alongside Ryan Jack. Nigerian international looked a bit more conservative after the break before being pushed forward once Kamara came on. A good shift from Aribo. Taken off for Ianis Hagi with 15 minutes to go.
Ryan Kent – 8
Lashed home the opener after 15 minutes to score the Gers’ 450th league goal against Aberdeen. Looked really hungry to create chances. Replaced after 65 minutes by Glen Kamara.
Kemar Roofe – 9
Scored the second with an excellent strike as the former Leeds and Anderlecht showed his class. His vision and movement and movement are fantastic and proving to be an incredible signing so far. A player who is head and shoulders above most in Scotland. Replaced by Cedric Itten for the last 15 minutes.
Alfredo Morelos – 6
Started off quiet and struggled to really get into the game in the opening 45. Passing was really slack at times but did cause problems for the Aberdeen defence with his movement. Taken off with 25 minutes left.
