As Rangers’ hunt for a new central-defender continues, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding is up for sale.

The Italian transfer journalist claims the 27-year-old English centre-back has options in La Liga and is now set to leave Arsenal after seven years in North London.

Signed from Bolton Wanderers for £2m in 2016, the suggestion is that Arsenal are prepared to strike a deal and Rangers may well take a look at the centre-back.

Whilst the defender is right-footed – and Rangers are said to be more interested in a left-footer – this player with such high-level Premier League pedigree poses an interesting proposition.

Rangers may be able to strike a cut-price deal and for all intents and purposes, the club’s main reported targets no longer seem to be available.

Left-footer Jake Cooper has signed a new contract with Millwall, whilst reports linking right-footer Harry Souttar to the club have just been rubbished.

It’s raised a few eyebrows with regards who Rangers might actually be interested in with one more addition at least expected this week.

Rangers have already added nine new players this summer with the club seemingly well-stocked at centre-back at things stand.

Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Ben Davies and Leon Balogun are the senior options at Ibrox, but with all four prone to an injury there are doubts about their longevity over the campaign.

This is why Rangers fans are crying out for a new defender signing and perhaps signing Arsenal’s Rob Holding on a cut price deal is a promising move for all parties.

Rangers get a competitive and talented option in the 27-year-old – he wouldn’t have played with Arsenal this long otherwise – whilst Rob Holding gets the chance to play for the Famous.

Whilst there have been no official links to the player, it’s an interesting option for Rangers supporters.

The club also bolster the centre back position which, as we’re seeing across the city, can quickly turn drastic without the necessary options.
