Rangers midfielder Ben Williamson is set to join Dundee on a season-long loan, according to a report, with the Scotland under-21 cap making his fourth loan move in the last three seasons.
Williamson, who has previously been at Arbroath, Livingston and Raith Rovers, is headed for Dens Park, according to the Scottish Sun, as he looks for regular football this season.
The midfielder burst to prominence after some outstanding performances for Arbroath in the Championship two seasons ago as they were one of the surprise packages in the Championship.
However, last season’s stint at Livingston didn’t quite go to plan and Williamson returned to Ibrox early before heading back out on loan to Raith Rovers.
While in Kirkcaldy, Williamson helped John McGlynn’s side to the SPFL Trust Trophy but was powerless to stop their league season imploding as Raith slid down the table.
The midfielder had previously been linked with a move to Dundee’s Championship rivals Partick Thistle, but it seems that he’ll be heading for the City of Discovery rather than Maryhill.
Move to Dundee feels like the last chance for Williamson to really kick on and secure Rangers future
With three loans under his belt already, it feels like Williamson is running out of chances to show he has a long-term future at Rangers.
Having seen the likes of Alex Lowry and Charlie McCann cement their place in the first-team squad, a third loan in the second-tier of Scottish football isn’t exactly progression for Williamson.
If a move to Dundee does go ahead, he’ll need to have a fantastic season and can’t afford to simply cruise by without ever really excelling.
