Rangers loanee Lewis Mayo scored his first goal for Partick Thistle in a 1-0 win over Hamilton Accies and also helped them set a new club record for consecutive league clean sheets.

Mayo took part in pre-season at Rangers before being sent out for a second stint on loan at Firhill.

The 21-year-old centre-back – who can also play right-back and in midfield – is now relatively experienced at Championship level having spent last season at Dunfermline Athletic, and he’s really starting to thrive.

He’s been a near ever-present in a Thistle side eyeing back-to-back promotions and his winner against Accies on Saturday afternoon moved Ian McCall’s men to just two points off top spot.

Mayo had his say in the 57th minute, getting on the end of a Kyle Turner corner and directing a header back across goal and into the net.

His work at the back also helped to set an impressive new club record.

The clean sheet was Thistle’s sixth successive shutout in the league and Mayo played the full 90 minutes in five of those matches.

His fellow Rangers loanee Jake Hastie was an unused substitute for the game, as his struggles continue.

The 22-year-old winger has only featured in one of Thistle’s last five league matches.

Meanwhile, the Rangers B team dished out a hammering in the Lowland League with two exciting teenagers bagging braces.
