Rangers loanee Lewis Mayo has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week following his outstanding display for Partick Thistle on Saturday.

Mayo, who’s a few months into his third loan stint away from Ibrox and second at Thistle, scored the only goal of the game as the Jags downed Hamilton Accies at Firhill.

The 21-year-old defender nodded home from a corner in the 57th minute to bag his first senior club goal and move his adopted side to just two points off top spot in the Championship.

He also made a big contribution at the other end of the pitch, defending stoutly to help secure a new club record for consecutive clean sheets.

The shutout against Accies was Thistle’s sixth in a row in the league and Mayo played the full 90 minutes in five of those matches.

The centre-back’s performance earned him a spot in the SPFL Team of the Week in a back three alongside Ricki Lamie of Motherwell and Forfar Athletic’s Andy Munro.

Unsurprisingly, no Rangers first-team players got the nod after their 3-1 Premier Sports Cup semi-final defeat to Hibernian, but Hibs’ Hampden hero Martin Boyle was named as the Star Man.

Next up for Mayo and Thistle is a Scottish Cup third-round tie against Dunfermline Athletic on Friday night, which could see him come up against fellow Rangers loanee Kai Kennedy.

Meanwhile, a former Rangers star scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner in the EFL on Tuesday following a lengthy injury absence.
