Rangers loanee Jamie Barjonas nets first Partick Thistle goal

Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas scored the first goal of his loan spell at Partick Thistle on Wednesday evening.

The 21-year-old was turning out for the Jags in the City of Glasgow Cup away at Queen’s Park and scored the visitors’ only goal in a 1-1 draw.

On the stroke of half-time, his free-kick got the better of the opposition goalkeeper, sneaking in at the far post. However, Cammy Foy equaliser for the hosts and the points were shared at Lesser Hampden [ptfc.co.uk].

It’ll be a boost for the highly-rated talent to get off the mark for his new club, as he looks to force his way into Ian McCall’s first-choice XI.

Shortly after penning a new contract with the Gers, ensuring he’s tied to the club until at least the summer of 2021, Barjonas left Ibrox for Firhill during the January window.

Prior to last night’s Cup tie, he had made two substitute appearances in the league, in a 2-1 defeat to Arbroath and a 1-1 draw with Ayr United, accumulating 57 minutes of action.

However, after this important midweek contribution, he’ll be hoping to make the starting lineup for Saturday’s trip to Dundee.

He’s currently competing with the likes of Darian MacKinnon, Stuart Bannigan and Reece Cole for a spot and knows that he’ll need to get playing regularly between now and the end of the season if he’s to impress Steven Gerrard and co.

Barjonas has first-team experience with Rangers, making nine previous competitive appearances, but the last of those came in December 2017.
