Rangers have confirmed the squads for this weekend’s Legends game at Ibrox with Liverpool with a host of former players set to return to Ibrox one more time – although the Rangers squad, in particular, seems rather underwhelming.

The likes of Jorg Albertz, Richard Gough and Trevor Steven will be joined by some more recent names such as Carlos Cuellar, Clint Hill and Sasa Papac as the Gers take on a strong Liverpool squad at Ibrox next Saturday.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard will be pulling on a red jersey one again as he joins his former Anfield team-mates – although with the Rangers number 8 left empty it looks as though the cameo he hinted at over the weekend will become a reality.

Despite some of the names confirmed, the Rangers squad does seem to be a bit disappointing with few bona fide legends involved and lots of guys who had decent, if unspectacular, Ibrox careers involved.

With no Ally McCoist, Brian Laudrup, Andy Goram, Paul Gascoigne, Gio van Bronckhorst, Ronald de Boer or Barry Ferguson and the likes of Gregory Vignal, Alex Rae and Charlie Adam involved it doesn’t really build the excitement.

Spanish hero Fernando Torres’ name is also a notable absence after Gers icon Richard Gough seemed to confirm his involvement during a press conference last week.

Hopefully, the game still attracts a good crowd but with actual Legends appearing a bit thin on the ground, it might struggle to catch the supporters’ imagination.
