Rangers defender George Edmundson has admitted that he’s using Ibrox team-mate Niko Katic after seeing the Croatian have a similar experience to him after joining the Gers 12 month before Edmundson’s move from Oldham.

After being involved in some of the early games, Edmundson has struggled for action recently and insists he can learn from Katic after he went through the same following his move from Slaven Belupo.

Edmundson confessed that some of the coaches at the club have also told him to “do the same” as Katic by getting his head down and working hard – but insists that he “knew” prior to moving to Ibrox that it wouldn’t be easy to play every week.

“Niko’s someone I look
up to. Last season he was in the same situation I am in now,” Edmundson said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“He’s a top player and a great defender and someone I can learn from alongside Connor and Filip. He spoke to me and some of the staff have spoken about it too, how Niko was in and out but he kept going.

“They’ve told me to do the same, keep the head up and try to stay in the team when I get my chance. It is hard coming from Oldham and having played every game but I knew it was going to be like this so I’m not going to get down.”

Edmundson has impressed when called upon so far this season but it always seemed unlikely that he’d be a regular in the starting XI right away.

Getting some game-time under his belt and making appearances from the bench should help him continue to improve and push on for regular starts.

Katic’s spell at Ibrox is a perfect example to follow and if he can make anything like the impact Katic has at Ibrox then Rangers have landed an absolute steal from Oldham.
