Rangers icon 'wishes' he'd been in Glasgow for 55 as he lauds 'proper' support

Rangers icon Graeme Souness has admitted that he wished he cu0ld have been in Glasgow as the Gers were confirmed Premiership champions for the first time in a decade, praising the “proper” Ibrox support that backed the club all the way back up from the Third Division.

Celtic’s draw with Dundee United confirmed the inevitable as Rangers’ dominance finally paid off after 32 games unbeaten in the league so far this term, with only 9  goals conceded.

Souness confessed he would have liked to see Steven Gerrard’s side go to Celtic Park in two weeks’ time with the title still at stake but was more than happy to see it wrapped up even earlier.

After everything the club has gone through, the former Rangers boss paid special tribute to the fans after a decade unlike any other in the club’s history, saying: “It’s been a long time coming. Celtic have had a period of domination which was, what I will say, uncomfortable for us Rangers supporters.” [Sky Sports]

“They thoroughly deserve it, they’ve been fantastic all season and I just wish i was in Glasgow right now!

“Part of me wishes Celtic had won today so Rangers had to go to Parkhead being the in form team and winning it there which would have compounded Celtic’s problems.

“But I’ll take that today.

“They’ve been phenomenal so fair play to the players and the staff and I have to say, the Rangers support. In their history, they’ve never had a period like that which they’ve experienced in the last ten years.

“They were thrown out of the league – unfairly in my opinion – and all the anti-Rangers brigade that were coming out of the woodwork out there.

“When you’re in the third tier and you’ve got 50,000 people turning up to your stadium, that’s a proper support.”

Rangers legend Steven Gerrard has dropped an exciting hint about his future amid Liverpool speculation.
