Rangers icon slaughters SFA chief over Celtic's Dubai debacle

Rangers icon Ally McCoist has slaughtered Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell after he defended Celtic’s trip to Dubai which left them with 13 players and three staff isolating – calling the SFA boss’ response “horrendous.”

Maxwell has backed the Parkhead side’s trip in an interview with PLZ Soccer, although he went on to suggest that they may well now be regretting their decision to travel.

McCoist described the whole situation as “carnage” before insisting the governing body had “let themselves down” and Celtic had “shot themselves in the foot.”

“Honest to god, it’s carnage. It’s chaos. Absolute chaos. Celtic are all over the place, 13 players, 3 staff self-isolating,” McCoist said [TalkSPORT].

“Nicola Sturgeon is having a go at them saying it’s not right. Ian Maxwell from the SFA came out and for some reason tried to defend it, which was horrendous to listen to.

“The whole thing is carnage. They’ve completely and utterly shot themselves in the foot by going ahead with this trip. I don’t know for the life of me who thought it would be a good idea at this time.

“They go there normally and I absolutely get it. Training in a bit of sun at that time of the year and that’s the normal thing to do but anybody with any common sense would look at the situation round about and just say, ‘No, we need to pull the plug on this, we need to pull the plug’.

“I thought the SFA let themselves down as well yesterday.

“People can’t visit families. Grans and Grandads haven’t seen their grandchildrens for a long, long time and someone thinks it’s a good idea to go?”

The row over Celtic’s trip to Dubai is certain to rumble on for a while – and Rangers look set to reap the benefits as a result.

With 13 players isolating, they’ve already dropped two points to Hibs and now sit 21 points off Rangers with 18 games left to play.

That’s a massive gap to turn around and there will likely be massive repercussions at Celtic Park.

Rangers fans have had plenty to say about the circumstances surrounding Celtic’s draw with Hibs and also railed against the decision not to retest Celtic players pre-match.
