Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hailed Borna Barisic’s free-kick as an “outstanding” effort as the Croatian’s goal sealed the win over St. Mirren on Sunday.

Gerrard’s Rangers dominated the game against the Buddies but couldn’t find a way to open the scoring before Barisic’s stunning set-piece flew into the top corner after 59 minutes.

The Gers boss admitted that he’s seen Barisic do it before but much preferred seeing it in a game as the Light Blues maintained their 100% league start.

“I thought it was an outstanding set-piece,” Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“The technique, the quality – I’ve seen it in training quite a few times and it is very nice to see it in a game to go and get his teammates three important points on the back of a European game.”

Barisic has been out of the side recently with Jon Flanagan starting at left-back so it will be interesting to see who Gerrard opts for on Thursday against Legia.

If that goal against St. Mirren can give Barisic the confidence he clearly lacks then it could finally unlock a very capable player’s talents.

Whether it’s enough to force him into the plans for the next two game remains to be seen but it would be a massive show of faith from Gerrard if he did start Barisic against either Legia or Celtic.
