Rangers flop Ricky Foster has laughably claimed Rangers have spent “£4million on an unknown” after signing Ianis Hagi from KRC Genk over the summer.

The former Ross County defender thinks Rangers would have been better served spending £1million on a Scottish Premiership journeyman – presumably one like Foster – rather than the Romanian wonderkid.

Foster, who managed to also get Hagi’s £3million fee wrong, is better known as the partner of former pop star Amy MacDonald and showed a stunning lack of knowledge of football with his comments.

“They’ve just paid £4million for the boy Hagi,” Foster told Open Goal.

“They’re spending £4million on an unknown, they’d be better spending £1m on a guy who is a bit older but has been there before.”

Hagi arrived at Ibrox with a fantastic pedigree and was having a spotlight shone on him from as early as 2015 when he was only 16.

The Romanian is widely regarded as a fantastic prospect and he’s already accumulated more in transfer fees at 21 than Foster has over his entire career.

You can be sure that when Hagi comes to the end of his career, he’ll have had a far bigger impact on the game than Foster.
