Partick Thistle today announced their intention to take legal action against the SPFL – and Rangers fans have joked that former Ibrox chairman Dave King is footing the bill.
After yesterday releasing a statement saying they planned to move on, Thistle performed a remarkable u-turn after a benefactor offered to pay any legal costs they would face in their battle with the SPFL.

The Jags changed their position after an “extremely generous offer of unexpected help” and they will now join forces with Hearts in a bid to overturn their relegations.
They had hoped a last-ditch reconstruction proposal led by Hearts would get backing from clubs but they overwhelmingly voted against it yesterday.
Thistle has said previously that legal action would cost them a “six-figure sum” so whoever has stumped up must have some pretty deep pockets – or want to see the SPFL hierarchy dismantled.
Hearts confirmed their intention to launch action yesterday but have yet to comment on Partick also now taking action – it remains to be seen whether any other clubs also look to get in on the action.
Rangers fans on Twitter were quick to offer their suggestions as to who Partick’s mystery benefactor is – with Dave King very much the leading candidate for some.
Here are some of the comments from Rangers fans on Twitter:

We should thank Dave King for providing Partick Thistle with the funds to allow them to take legal action.
