Former Rangers winger Daniel Candeias is the scorer of today’s Goal of the Day on the club’s official Twitter account – and fans still haven’t got over the Portuguese star’s departure.

Candeias left Ibrox last year to join Turkish side Gençlerbirliği but many fans feel that the Gers still haven’t replaced him in the starting XI.

Candeias’ side are in action tonight when they face Göztepe in the Turkish Süper Lig and the 32-year-old will be hoping to add to his three goals and six assists so far this season.

Despite being in 12th spot in the table, Gençlerbirliği are not yet safe from the threat of relegation, given that they are only two points clear of the relegation zone with three games left.

Ianis Hagi has largely filled the gap left in the side since Candeias’ exit but the Romanian would be a better fit centrally and has yet to build up the same sort of relationship with James Tavernier.

Tav and Candeias were massively influential down the right together and some fans feel Gerrard is still to replace Candeias in the year since he was sold – with one calling him one of his “favourite Rangers of the modern era.”
