It’s asserted that following the very public collapse of negotiations with Eddie Howe, the Hoops have turned to the current Yokohama F. Marinos boss.

55-year-old Postecoglou was born in Greece but grew up in Australia, where he played for South Melbourne, Western Suburbs and the national team as a defender.

His management career began at South Melbourne in 1996 and since then, he’s taken charge of Australia U17s and U20s, Panachaiki, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and Australia, before taking up his J1 League posting in 2018.

ESPN reported back in 2017 that Postecoglou was interested in replacing Pedro Caixinha at Rangers, but Dave King wanted a manager with knowledge of the British game and ultimately appointed Steven Gerrard following Graeme Murty’s spell as interim boss.
