Rangers fans have responded positively after the club discovered their potential opponents for the Champions League play-off.

The Gers are taking on Swedish champions Malmö in the Third Qualifying Round and will have to play well to progress.

If they do triumph over two legs, though, they’ll face either Olympiacos or PFC Ludogorets 1945.

Olympiacos won the Greek Super League last season for the second consecutive campaign, while Ludogorets won the Bulgarian First League.

Ahead of the first leg, Olympiacos are favourites to progress, even though they only defeated Azerbaijani champions Neftçi 2-0 on aggregate in the previous round.

Neither side would be a pushover but plenty of supporters feel that this is the best draw Rangers could possibly have received, given that Red Bull Salzburg, Dinamo Zagreb and Slavia Prague were all potential opponents.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Bears:

If the Gers are knocked out by Mälmo, they will drop down to the Europa League play-off and that draw also took place on Monday.

Steven Gerrard’s side would face FC Kairat of Kazakhstan or Armenian club Alashkert for a place in the competition proper.

Rangers have received a big boost ahead of their first leg against Malmo, with an important player travelling with the squad despite fears.
