Rangers pair George Edmundson and Jordan Jones have been banned for seven games by the Scottish FA over breaching Covid-19 rules – and Gers fans on Twitter think it was the right call.
The pair were caught attending a party and were forced to self-isolate as well as being suspended by the club pending an internal disciplinary.
Neither will play for Rangers again until the end of December at the earliest – although it may well be that they have been seen in a Gers shirt for the last time.
Both were already omitted from Steven Gerrard’s Europa League squad so won’t even be able to get some game-time that way.
Managing director Stewart Robertson didn’t mince his words when the pair were caught, insisting the club won’t tolerate such actions.
“The Chairman Douglas Park, Ross Wilson, Steven Gerrard and I discussed this matter as soon as it was brought to our attention,” Robertson said on the club website.
“We are completely aligned in our action and the standards that are being set at Rangers.
“We will not tolerate behaviour that does not follow those standards and it is totally unacceptable for any of our players to be involved in anything that puts at risk the excellent protocols that have been put in place at Rangers.”
Gers fans on Twitter weren’t surprised at the severity of the punishment handed down by the SFA for the breaches – with some expecting the club to come down even harder on the pair.
