Rangers welcome Porto to Ibrox tonight in Matchday 4 of the Europa League group stage – and Gers fans on Twitter are surprised to see Brandon Barker named in the starting XI as Gerrard makes a bold decision over his side.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard has made one change from the side that booked their place in the League Cup final at the weekend, beating Hearts comfortably at Hampden, as Barker replaces Sheyi Ojo on the wing.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in Portugal two weeks ago as Alfredo Morelos’s tenth European goal of the campaign equalised Porto’s fantastic opener from his compatriot Luis Díaz. and a win at Ibrox would be a massive step towards qualification for Rangers.

The Gers are unbeaten at home to Portuguese clubs in Europe, winning the first five before drawing the last two games – both 0-0 draws with Sporting Lisbon.

There had been four previous European fixtures between the clubs before they met a few weeks ago in Porto, meeting in the 1983/84 European Cup Winners’ Cup second round and the 2005/06 Champions League group stage with Rangers winning both games at Ibrox.

Rangers fans are surprised to see Barker in the starting XI – with one saying it is the sort of decision they “love to see” as they look to pick up a good win against the Portuguese giants at a packed Ibrox.
