Rangers fans have never hidden their love for Bosnian hero Sasa Papac – and it came to the fore today as the club shared a throwback picture of the Gers favourite bossing a certain Lionel Messi during a Champions League tie.

The Gers held the Catalans to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox during the European campaign that culminated in the UEFA Cup final and Papac done what few have managed since and silenced the Argentinian genius.

Papac was signed from Austria Vienna in August 2006 and was brought in by new manager Paul Le Guen alongside Filip Sebo and Libor Sionko – and was the only one of the trio to make any real mark at Ibrox.

The Bosnian had some fantastic performances in a blue jersey, but none are as held as highly as the job he done marking Messi in the clash at Ibrox in the 2007-2008 Champions League.

Messi would later claim Rangers played anti-football after being stifled at Ibrox but few cared much as the Gers fought their way to the UEFA Cup final against Zenit St. Petersburg.

Fans on Twitter were quick to hail Papac – with the other guy in the picture getting the odd mention too.
