Defoe came into the starting XI after coming off the bench in midweek and did his chances of a start against Progres on Thursday no harm.

Since arriving at Ibrox in January, Defoe has been constantly among the goals and fans expect that he’ll continue that into the new season and have a big say in the title race.

With Defoe and Morelos both competing to be Steven Gerrard’s main striker, the veteran will have been happy with how he performed against the Championship side.
