Rangers defender Borna Barisic has split opinion with his performances for the Gers since his arrival from NK Osijek – and the Croatian international left fans tearing their hair out with yet another frustrating performance in the 2-1 win over Kilmarnock.

The defender struggled with injury and poor form last season and many thought he’d be on the way out this season but has been handed a reprieve by Steven Gerrard.

After being hooked at half-time of the draw with Progres in midweek, Barisic retained his place in the starting XI for the trip to Rugby Park.

With plenty of space to operate in down the left, Barisic never really got going and was let down by his crossing on a number of occassions.

Despite that, the defender never hid and was always bombing down the left on the overlap and offering an option for his team-mates.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him replaced on Thursday for the Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland in Denmark but it seems Gerrard is still keeping faith with him.

Gers fans on Twitter were left frustrated once more with Barisic’s performance – with one struggling to see why Gerrard prefers him to Andy Halliday.
