Rangers have confirmed defender Filip Helander has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the League Cup clash with Falkirk tonight – and Gers fans on Twitter have been sending messages of support to the Swedish defender as he goes into isolation.

The centre-back would likely have started the 4-0 win over the League One side but it was announced shortly before kick-off that he had tested positive for Covid, leading to a defensive reshuffle which say Calvin Bassey slot in at centre-back.

Helander will have to isolate for ten days and Gers boss Steven Gerrard confirmed after the Falkirk win that he had yet to speak to the defender but would do so after leaving the ground.

Helander’s absence saw Borna Barisic start in his usual left-back role while Bassey moved in one to partner Connor Goldson as the Gers racked up another clean sheet.

Rangers will be without Helander for ten days, ruling him out of the Standard Liege clash on Thursday night in the Europa League and the trip to face Ross County in Dingwall.

Since returning to the side after several months injured, the former Bologna star has put in a string of impressive performances for the Light Blues and his absence will be felt even harder with George Edmundson currently suspended.
