Rangers fans have reacted angrily on social media after Aberdeen forward Curtis Main escaped a red card for a dangerous challenge on Borna Barisic.

A brace from Alfredo Morelos helped the Gers to a 2-1 win over the Dons on Sunday afternoon as they stretched their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 22 points.

It was a massive three points for the club in their quest to win the league title and supporters lauded the Colombian striker after the game.

However, many also drew attention to what they felt was a glaring error from John Beaton during the first half.

The referee sent off Ryan Hedges in the 26th minute for felling Morelos when he was through on goal.

Yet, he failed to produce a second red card for a home player when Main fouled Barisic just a few minutes before the interval.

The Dons forward went in aggressively with a high boot and studs up, catching the Croatian left-back high on the shin and leaving him in a heap on the turf.

Ally McCoist was adamant on commentary that it was worthy of a red card, as was Kris Boyd in the Sky Sports studio, but Beaton only brandished a yellow.

The no-doubt thankful Derek McInnes substituted Main soon after, rather than risking the 28-year-old continuing on until the interval.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Rangers fans to the incident:

Thankfully for Rangers, Barisic didn’t sustain any lasting damage and the marauding full-back went on to score highly in our Player Ratings as the Gers moved further clear of second-place Celtic, who host Hibernian on Monday night.
