Rangers fans have praised former Gers player and manager Stuart McCall for passionate comments made outside Ibrox that prompted a backlash from Celtic fans [Sky Sports].

McCall’s short stint in the Ibrox hot seat in 2015 didn’t work out as he would’ve hoped but the former midfielder enjoyed huge success during his time at the club as a player, winning ten major honours between 1991 and 1998.

The 56-year-old knows how to get over the line in a title race, with five top-flight winners medals from his stint in Glasgow.

There’s no race as such this season, though, with Steven Gerrard’s side cantering towards the crown and McCall thinks the Gers’ impending triumph is the talk of the city.

“It’ll mean everything because the supporters have stuck with the club through thick and thin over the last nine years,” McCall told Sky Sports outside Ibrox. “They’ve been down divisions but they’ve backed them and that’s the only sadness, really, that you don’t have an Ibrox rocking at this moment in time with 50,000 fans, but I’m sure they’ll make the most of it once the day comes.”

“All season, the number being talked about has been ten. The only number that’s talked about in Glasgow now is 55 and it’s on its way.”

Many left Sevco-related complaints, questioning the assertion that Rangers’ impending top-flight title would be their 55th.

The Rangers fans that responded were delighted that McCall had so successfully wound up their rivals, though, and heaped praise on the Englishman.
