Rangers have released a statement blasting the Scottish FA over their decision to charge Steven Gerrard for comments made after the Dundee United win – and Gers fans on Twitter are understandably furious.
The Gers boss has been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee on October 8 for his comment on Ryan Edwards’ horror challenge on Alfredo Morelos that left the striker needing several stitches above his knee.
The club haven’t held back with their statement, calling it a “flawed and inaccurate interpretation” of the manager’s comments as they gave him their full support.
Speaking after Morelos had to be stretchered off, Gerrard said: “I don’t want to make any headlines and say the kid should have got this, or should have got that. I don’t want to be that type of manager.
“But what I would say is I’d be very interested to see what the decision would have been from the officials if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Alfredo who’s made that tackle.”
Gerrard’s charge is the latest in a line of incidents stemming from Kevin Clancy’s involvement in Gers games. Gerrard and Michael Beale have both been charged before for comments made over his officiating.
The latest charge is nothing short of laughable and Rangers fans on Twitter weren’t shy in making their feelings known.
Here are some of the comments from fuming Rangers fans on Twitter:

Cited for asking what would happen if it Morelos was to make a tackle that results in the other player having a hole in their leg. Scottish Football is an absolute joke. https://t.co/dWGLNJBYOz

This is laughable, contemptuous, trumped up nonsense pushed by……. well, we all know who.
Scottish football is a joke.
It’s being vociferously torn to shreds for one reason only.
And the authorities will happily assist & watch it burn to achieve that goal.

I know we shouldn’t be surprised anymore but WTF. Cited for that! Far worse has been said by others post match and bot a peep is said. SFA not fit for purpose! https://t.co/pwdazENYdL

Given we’re on day 400 of the Tom Boyd investigation, I doubt the SFA will get round to Steven Gerrard’s punishment for some time https://t.co/UxWxPADqCA

Knee high challenge requiring a player with a cut knee to be stretchered off – no retrospective punishment
Criticising the decision not to punish a knee high challenge which requiring a player with a cut knee to be stretchered off – notice of complaint

The SFA managed to turn what should have been a retrospective red card for Dundee Utd into a penalisation of Rangers.

‘I don’t want to stand here & say the lad should be sent off, I just wonder what would happen if shoe was on other foot’
Charge for Steven Gerrard
Offside goals, players injured, off the ball challenges
What a joke genuinely and a serious waste of time and money https://t.co/XwkauEiKRb
