Recently-released Arsenal midfielder has been a regular suggestion for a Rangers move with fans on social media recently, and the Gers-supporting free agent has been named on the shortlist for the prestigious European Golden Boy award.

Fans have long suspected Gilmour could join Rangers, with Ibrox winger Glenn Middleton fuelling speculation, and his impressive talents have been recognised by journalists across the continent.

Gilmour is unlikely to win the award given some of the other names nominated but it’s good to see the midfielder acknowledged.

Recent winners have included Kylian Mbappe, Matthijs de Ligt and Raheem Sterling with de Ligt likely to lift the award again this year.

After leaving Arsenal this summer, Gilmour is currently without a club but won’t be a free agent for long given his place on the Golden Boy shortlist.

The midfielder has represented both Scotland and England at youth international level and made a handful of appearances for Arsenal in this season’s run to the Europa League final.

The 20-year-old has clearly had a fantastic football education in Arsenal’s Academy and could have a similar impact at Ibrox to another former Arsenal kid, Glen Kamara.
