Rangers face a sweat over Borna Barisic’s fitness for this weekend’s clash with Dundee United after it was confirmed he missed Croatia’s clash with France due to injury.

Croatia’s team doctor Zoran Bahtijarevic explained the left-back’s absence from the heavy loss by admitting he had picked up a knock against Portugal a few days earlier.

The Croatian doc admitted he wasn’t “fully ready” to face France as Steven Gerrard prepares his side for Saturday’s return to league action.

“Borna Barisic got a knock on his knee against Portugal,” Bahtijarevic said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I couldn’t say with certainty that he would have been fully ready for the match in France.”

Barisic has been a key player for the Gers over the last 18 months and has shown a dramatic turnaround after struggling during his first season at Ibrox.

If he does miss the United game, Calvin Bassey would likely come into the starting XI to replace the Croatian international after joining the Gers over the summer.

With 48 hours until the Gers welcome Dundee United to Ibrox, Rangers will be doing everything they can to ensure Barisic’s fitness and look to continue the unbeaten start to the season the Light Blues have enjoyed so far.
