New Rangers TV signing and Scotland woman’s team manager Shelley Kerr has hailed Ibrox new boy Leon Balogun’s impressive debut against Aberdeen as being “as good a debut as you’ll see.”
The former Brighton star made his first appearance for Steven Gerrard’s side in the 1-0 Pittodrie win as he strolled through the game alongside Connor Goldson at the heart of the Gers defence.
Kerr thinks Rangers have got themselves a real coup with Balogun’s signing, insisting the Light Blues have a “fantastic player” at the club.
“As a centre-back, it is as good a performance as you’ll see for a new club,” Kerr told BBC Sportscene.
“I thought he was outstanding without being under too much pressure. He intercepts, he won every header, the duels he won, he was comfortable driving with the ball into midfield. He was so assured.
“I know it’s only one game but Rangers have got themselves a fantastic player there.”
Balogun will miss Thursday’s Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen but will almost certainly come back into the side for next weekend’s first home game of the season.
Despite being a last-minute arrival, he has immediately slotted into the side and George Edmundson and Filip Helander face a real fight to dislodge him.
