Rangers dealt injury blow as Gerrard confirms midfielder to miss Celtic clash

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that the Light Blues will be without Scott Arfield for at least the next two or three games after the results of a scan.

The midfielder limped out of the win over Hibs at the weekend and will now miss the clashes with Celtic and Aberdeen as the Gers look to take a step closer to the title.

Gerrard admitted that he is waiting for a “few more opinions” but confessed it is “very difficult” to put a firm timeline on the Canadian’s return.

“The scan came back and we are just waiting on a few more opinions on it,” Gerrard said.

“We’ve had one opinion on it and he will obviously be missing in the short term. He will definitely be missing for a few weeks, that’s for sure.

“But in terms of the exact date or time, it’s very difficult right now. He will certainly miss the next two or three fixtures.”

With Ryan Jack also out of action for an unspecified amount of time, Rangers are a bit light in midfield now and it could prompt Gerrard to make moves in the transfer market next month.

Losing both Jack and Arfield at such a vital time of the season is a huge blow for the Light Blues as they look to push towards the title in the second half of the campaign.

Hopefully, Arfield can gt back to fitness quickly though, with the Rangers star having been massively important in helping the Gers open up a 16-point gap at the top of the table.
