Rangers star Steven Davis has lauded Ibrox talisman Alfredo Morelos after the Colombian hit his 21st goal of the season before setting Davis up for one of his own in the 2-0 win over Porto last night.
The Gers survived a poor first half before taking control of the game and Morelos’ strike turned the game in Rangers favour as he netted a fantastic finish from Ryan Jack’s cross.
Just minutes later, Morelos picked out Davis outside the box before the Ulsterman drove home to double the Gers’ advantage and cap off an impressive win.
“We’re delighted, Porto are a really good side,” Davis told BT Sport immediately after full-time.
“We weren’t at our best in the first half but I think we stepped up in the second, got a couple of goals and looked the better team. We knew the home games were going to be important so it puts us in a good place in the group.
“It was a great cutback from Jacko and Alfredo’s got it on his left foot and it’s a helluva finish. He’s been outstanding for us all season and turned up again and got a very important goal for us to set us on our way.”
Rangers now sit joint-top of Group G with Young Boys on seven points and a win in Rotterdam on Matchday 5 would see the Gers confirm their place in the next round.
With one more game to come after that, Rangers have put themselves into an excellent position to qualify and reach the knockout phase.
After Morelos scored his 11th goal of the season in the Europa League, few would bet against the Colombian scoring the goal to seal qualification.
