Rangers star Filip Helander has admitted there have been “little jibes” at former Celtic defender Mikael Lustig after the Gers sealed 55 – with his international team-mate “not so happy” at the outcome of the Premiership.
Lustig is up there as one of the most disliked Celtic players in recent time and his vow to return to Glasgow for a “ten in a row party” have backfired spectacularly with his international team-mate – who is still yet to lose a league game as a Rangers player – rubs it in.
Helander admitted, however, that the former Parkhead star congratulated him after romping to the title as they prepare to kick off Sweden’s World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign this week.
“He’s not so happy but I’m happy”, Helander said [Fotbollskanalen].
“He has received little jibes – but he has actually congratulated me”.
The Gers are 20 points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership with five games to go and will receive the league trophy after the final game of the season in May.
After lording it over poor Rangers teams as Celtic dominated the domestic game, it’s only a shame Lustig wasn’t there in his wee polis hat to watch Steven Gerrard’s players celebrate 55.
Meanwhile, an in-demand Rangers star has confirmed that he has had talks with the club regarding a possible contract extension.
