Rangers take on Lincoln Red Imps tomorrow night in the Europa League as they look to reach the group stages for a third successive season – but the Gers can’t afford not to take the minnows seriously or risk a Celtic-esque embarrassment in Gibraltar.

Steven Gerrard’s side are red-hot favourites to reach the next round but the Gers boss’ selection must show respect to the Red Imps with the Light Blues having no room for error.

With the qualifying rounds being played as single ties rather than the usual two-legged affairs, Rangers must win tomorrow night and Gerrard’s starting XI needs to reflect the importance of the fixture.

While it might seem a bit like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut, Celtic’s humiliating defeat on The Rock shows that there is a risk for bigger teams at Victoria Stadium.

There’s almost certainly going to be a number of changes to the side but making wholesale alterations would be a gamble for Gerrard’s side after a stellar start to the league campaign.

The chances of lightning striking twice for Red Imps against one of the Old Firm are incredibly slim but Gerrard can’t take the risk that his side slip up and somehow fall at the first hurdle.

Rangers have more than enough quality throughout the squad to see off the minnows and should comfortably take their place in the next round but need to make sure they don’t take the win for granted and get caught out.
