Rangers braced for striker swoop by Qatari club

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is wanted by cash-rich Qatari club Al-Duhail, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that the Qatar Stars League leaders want to bring the Colombian to the club after signing former Juventus trio Mario Mandzukic, Mehdi Benatia and Han Kwang-song.

The Colombian international has been linked with a host of clubs since arriving at Ibrox and it will take a hefty sum to prize him away from Rangers.

His form this season saw him shortlisted for the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year award, alongside Odsonne Edouard, Callum McGregor and Lawrence Shankland with the Frenchman picking up the award.

Morelos’ blistering form before Christmas saw him become the first player ever to score 14 goals in the Europa League by that point as well as the most goals for a Scottish club in a single European campaign.

However, his form dipped after the winter break and El Buffalo struggled to find the net as Steven Gerrard’s side saw their season implode.

Morelos has never hidden his desire to move to England and play in the Premier League so he may well look to hold out for a move south of the border rather than heading to Qatar.
