Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd thinks that Alfredo Morelos is so valuable to Rangers that the can’t sell the Colombian goal machine “at any price” after he scored against Porto on Thursday.
Morelos has already hit the net 21 times this season and El Buffalo shows no signs of letting up any time soon as he looks to smash through last season’s tally of 30.
Boys insists that if Rangers are serious about stopping Celtic winning a ninth successive title then Morelos can’t go anywhere in January – despite reports of interest from Premier League clubs.
“At Ibrox, that man Alfredo Morelos produced again,” Boyd told the Scottish Sun.
“He’s now so important to Rangers that I don’t think they could sell him in January even if a bid of £50million came in.
“Listen, that’s not going to happen, but you cannot underplay how vital he is to Gerrard’s team.
“For me, if they want to have a proper go at stopping nine in a row — which they clearly do — they couldn’t sell him at any price.”
Steven Gerrard has said that Morelos isn’t leaving Ibrox in January but, hopefully, he can stick around beyond this season and write his name into the club’s history books.
The former HJK Helsinki striker already sits just six goals behind Ally McCoist in the club’s all-time European goalscorer list and he seems destined to break that sooner or later.
Money always talks though and there will be a figure that forces Rangers’ hand – but unless anyone actually comes up with it then Morelos is going nowhere.
