Rangers boss will want to 'dominate' SPFL before Liverpool return, World Cup winner claims

Former Liverpool and Chelsea star Fernando Torres admits that it is “inevitable” that Steven Gerrard will return to Liverpool one day – but insists that the Rangers boss will want to “dominate” Scottish football first.

Gerrard has taken the Light Blues 19 points clear of bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and Torres thinks that the Rangers players are “very fortunate” to be working under the Anfield icon.

Torres isn’t surprised at how well Gerrard has done in Scotland since taking the reins at Ibrox in 2018 but called his association with Liverpool “one of football’s real love stories” as he opened up on a future return to Anfield for Gerrard.

“At some point a Steven Gerrard return to Liverpool is inevitable as it is his home,” Torres said [Daily Record].

“He is so hungry for success I know he will want to dominate at Rangers and not just win the title once.

“But Steven Gerrard and Liverpool are one of football’s real love stories. One day I am sure he will return.

“When, I don’t know – at the moment Liverpool have one of the best and most successful coaches in the world in Jurgen Klopp and they won’t want to lose him.

“The fact he is doing so well in Scotland he is no surprise. He was our leader, we looked up to him, we listened to him. Even back then it was like having another coach in the dressing room – and the players at Rangers are very fortunate to be playing under him.

“As captain, he would take time out of his day to go and take a walk with players and talk – and I am sure he is doing that as a coach. My advice would be listen to everything he says.”

Gerrard has made huge impact at Ibrox since his arrival and it is clear to see the Gers boss has driven standards up at the club since 2018.
