Rangers boss not focused on equalling Jock Wallace wins record

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hopes to maintain the Gers’ winning run as they sit 90 minutes away from equalling a near-fifty-year-old club record for consecutive league wins.

The Light Blues have won their last 15 Premiership fixtures ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Motherwell, with the Gers now sitting 20 points ahead of bitter rivals Celtic at the top of the table.

Gerrard insists the “only goals” his side are focused on are continuing to win rather than setting out to break records of previous Gers managers.

“The players have set a really good standard this season and the challenge is to maintain that as long as possible,” Gerrard said [Scottish Sun].

“If that means we break or equal records along the way, then fantastic. But the plan isn’t to break records of any other manager.

“The idea is to maintain this form through to the end of the season and to be a success. Those are the only goals we’re focused on.”

With the Gers having only conceded six goals so far this season from 23 games, there could well be a few more records fall before the curtain comes down on the season.

Like Gerrard though, fans only want one thing, and it isn’t to be breaking post-war records set by sides who would ultimately fail to win that season’s title.

Getting 16 wins in a row would be nice but if losing tomorrow guaranteed the title, there’s probably few Rangers fans who wouldn’t take it.

It appears Aberdeen want the situation over Scott Wright’s future settled quickly after he was axed from the defeat by Ross County yesterday
