Rangers have been boosted by the presence of Ibrox stalwart Connor Goldson in training ahead of the club’s crunch Champions League QR tie with Servette.

The Gers hold a narrow 2-1 lead heading into a sell-out tie in Switzerland and Michael Beale was clear the club still have it all to do to reach the Champions League playoffs.

A tie with PSV Eindhoven likely lies in wait after they demolished Sturm Graz 4-1 in the first leg and all eyes will be on Geneva tonight as Rangers face Servette.

And the club’s supporters have been rightly boosted by the sight of influential vice-captain Connor Goldson in Servette training ahead of the Champions League clash.

The big defender has only just returned from a lengthy injury problem and was rested for the weekend’s comprehensive 4-0 victory over Livingston at Ibrox.

Rangers are getting closer and closer to their full complement after a disastrous season of injuries in the last campaign and the presence of Connor Goldson is a sizeable boost.

Fans will also notice the return of defenders Ben Davies and Leon King in the training video as Rangers begin to get solid defensive options back into the squad.

Connor Goldson to return v Servette

Michael Beale preferred the returning Leon Balogun and form Scotland centre-back John Souttar for the clash with the Lions with the latter is expected to retain his place.

Connor Goldson has massive experience with Rangers in navigating the European qualifiers and his influence could be huge in the clash with Servette in Switzerland.

With a €5m (£4m) parachute payment guaranteed for whoever makes the Champions League playoff, there is also more than just prestige on the line in Switzerland.

The resurgent Swiss side have already seen off KRC Genk in the competition and are clearly no mugs so Rangers will have to be at their best to progress.

Rangers have also been heavily linked with a move for another centre-back to reinforce the club’s options this season but Michael Beale was quick to play down specific reports ahead of the game.

Whilst Connor Goldson is set to return v Servette, Michael Beale has already confirmed another key Rangers star is set to miss out for “personal reasons”.
