Rangers exit could open door for defender to join League One side

Former Ibrox duo Joey Barton and Clint Hill could be set to add another Rangers link at Fleetwood Town after a report claimed they are interested in signing Jon Flanagan.

According to The Sun, the recently-released Rangers full-back could join the Cod Army after a fairly lacklustre spell in Glasgow.

The full-back never really got going at Ibrox and was used sparingly for most of his time at Ibrox but Barton appears to want to bring him to Highbury.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Another two Gers who were also released this summer, Jason Holt and Jordan Rossiter, have also had spells at Fleetwood under Barton while yet another ex-Ibrox player is part of the coaching staff in Barry Nicholson.

Despite his Ibrox stint failing to really deliver, Flanagan would be ideally suited to League One and his experience would be perfect for Barton’s side as they look to get to the Championship.

The controversial former midfielder had taken them to fifth in League One before football was suspended in March and has done a solid, if unspectacular, job with Fleetwood.

Whether he gets to finish the job he started this season – or has to try again next term – remains to be seen and Flanagan could help play a role in getting there.
