Rangers confirm new deals for quartet of Academy stars

Rangers have confirmed that the club’s Academy has tied down four promising young Gers beyond the end of the season after Brian Kinnear, Alex Lowry, Jack Thomson and Robbie Fraser all signed new contracts.

The news was announced by the club’s Youth Academy on Twitter as the Gers look to secure their future at Ibrox.

Thomson is the most senior of the group as a regular member of Graeme Murty’s Colts but has struggled with injury in recent seasons which have hindered his progress towards the first-team.

Kinnear, like Thomson, was out of contract this summer but has extended his stay after spending last season on loan with East of Scotland side Camelon.

Lowry and Fraser both have time remaining on their existing deals but the club have moved quickly to extend those and tie them to the club for the foreseeable future after impressing as part of Davie McCallum’s under-18 side.

Of the four, Thomson is the only one to have come close to the first-team at Rangers after the versatile youngster was named on the bench for a clash with Dundee in the 2016 Scottish Cup.

With the club’s Academy winning plaudits for their incredible successes over the last 18 months, securing some of the young talents who have helped push them on is a no brainer of Rangers.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see them push towards Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad in the near future and challenge for a place in the senior side.
