Rangers fans have responded on social media to the news that the Light Blues will face Hibernian in their Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

The Gers booked their place in the final four on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over Livingston at Ibrox, having hammered Dunfermline Athletic 5-0 last month in the last 16.

It represents progress on last season’s effort, when the Gers were knocked out at the quarter-final stages by St Mirren.

Steven Gerrard will be determined to go all the way this time, though, given that he’s still yet to win a domestic cup competition as a manager.

The four teams to enter the hat for the semi-finals were Rangers, Celtic, Hibernian and 2020/21 winners St Johnstone, and the Gers were drawn against Hibs.

The tie will be played on the weekend of 20/21 November.

Given that Hampden Park is the venue, it’s a repeat of the 2016 Scottish Cup final, which Hibs won 3-2 after an injury-time goal from David Gray.

Some supporters see this as a chance for revenge of sorts for the Gers, who now have a much stronger squad than the one used at Hampden that day.

Hibs are unbeaten in the league so far this season and are just a point behind Rangers in second place, but plenty of Bears fancy their team’s chances.

Meanwhile, supporters are raving about a remarkable piece of play from a summer signing against Livingston.
