Serie A side Spezia Calcio have expressed an interest in taking Rangers defender Nikola Katic on loan as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury from last year.
The towering 6ft4 defender, 24, is a fan favourite at Ibrox but faces stiff competition to break back into the side following an extended injury layoff.
The Croatian never kicked a ball for the club last season and watched on as his teammates secured a legendary 55th Scottish domestic league crown.
Now, as he ramps up his recovery ahead of the new season, there have been several murmurs of a potential loan move in order to ensure Niko gets the minutes required to get his career back on track.
According to the reputable Croatian Football News, Spezia are one of the sides who have shown “interest” in bringing the player to their club on loan.

A move to Italy’s top flight would certainly be a big experience for the defender who has the likes of Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun ahead of him in the club’s pecking order.
Jack Simpson is also a new recruit in the squad whilst the future of defender George Edmundson appears uncertain.
This could be a solution for Katic but going by the report it appears there is more than one club lining up a move for the centre-half.
Not that the defender has his sights set elsewhere as Katic announced he was ready to return as the Gers ramp up their pre-season preparations.
“I am happy that all that is behind me and now I am ready to go with the team again,” said Katic [Rangers].
“I am desperate to get back on the pitch, I lost 12 months with my injury and now I am so desperate to play and so excited.
“I’m giving everything 24 hours per day to be as ready as possible to help the team and to prove to the manager and fans how ready I am.”
Katic remains a firm fan favourite at Ibrox and the club’s fans went bonkers over images of him training at Auchenhowie last month.
