Rangers reserves manager Graeme Murty has praised his side after their 2-0 win over Celtic propelled them to the top of the Reserve League table with two games left to play.
Glenn Middleton’s double sealed the win but it was the performance of two of his young charges and a senior international Murty picked out for recognition after the final whistle.
“I thought we were really good and with a little bit more composure on our final pass or final moment we could have been a little bit more comfortable earlier in the game, but we were worthy winners,”
Murty told Rangers TV.
“Two that stood out, in different ways, were Cammy (Palmer) and Josh McPake. Cammy’s really come into his own this season as captain of the team but also he’s the glue that binds everything together. Josh is a fairly mercurial talent who can do lots and lots of things with the ball but he’s got the challenge of putting all together in a performance.
“I thought they were ably assisted by the cast – the rest of the team – and I thought that from one to eleven and even the subs all contributed something positive to the game.”
“I also have to make special mention of Matt Polster. Matt, as a first-team player coming down, set a good example for the younger players of how to conduct himself on the pitch.”
The reserves face Hamilton and Falkirk knowing two wins will seal the title and give them the first leg of a possible double success.
Lifting both trophies would cap off a fantastic season for the Academy sides and give further validation to the excellent work being down by Craig Mulholland and his staff at the Hummel Training Centre.
