Motherwell star Ross Tierney has taken an odd shot at Rangers on Instagram after yesterday’s 3-1 win for the Light Blues – posting video of his goal with ‘ssshhh’ emojis.
Despite Tierney’s goal meaning nothing as Motherwell’s dismal league form in 2022 continues, the Irishman obviously needed something to cling to after a comprehensive win for Rangers.
Posting the clip of his equaliser to Insta, Tierney will no doubt come in for some stick as a result, and is unlikely to do him any favours with some of the Motherwell fans.
BBC pundit Ricky Foster even thought Tierney might have been regretting his celebrations after the result, saying: “It’s a great run from the full back, a fantastic cross, and it’s a good header.
“He’s probably regretting his celebration now, after the end result. But good play from Motherwell.”
However, judging by his Instagram post, he’s taken decided to double down rather than backing down.
Tierney is far from the first to make himself look daft on social media but you’d think players would get wise to it by now.
After losing – and doing so to a team that played an hour with 10 men – it isn’t exactly the time to try noise up opposition fans on social media.
Tierney’s actually made a good start to life in Scotland since moving to Motherwell at the start of 2022 but gloating about scoring against Rangers when you lost 3-1 isn’t it.
